Heavy Rain in Ghaziabad Claims Three-Year-Old Girl's Life, Triggers Severe Waterlogging and Traffic Chaos Across NCR
Heavy rainfall in Ghaziabad claimed the life of a three-year-old girl after she slipped into a flooded street outside her home. The rain also caused severe waterlogging, traffic congestion on National Highway-9, a road cave-in in Vasundhara, and widespread disruption across Ghaziabad and Noida, prompting the district administration to declare a holiday in government schools.
The deceased child has been identified as Manvi. According to witnesses, she slipped into the waterlogged street outside her residence and disappeared before anyone could react. By the time local residents realised what had happened and rushed to rescue her, the child had already stopped breathing.
The tragic incident sparked anger among local residents, who blamed persistent waterlogging and inadequate drainage for creating hazardous conditions in residential areas. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
Amid widespread disruption caused by continuous rainfall, the Ghaziabad District Administration declared a holiday in government schools as authorities worked to manage the impact of flooding across the district.
Heavy waterlogging near the Ghazipur border on National Highway-9 led to prolonged traffic congestion on the Delhi-Ghaziabad route, causing significant inconvenience to commuters.
In a separate rain-related incident, a section of a road in Vasundhara Sector 13 collapsed beside an under-construction basement following incessant rainfall. A parked car and a scooter fell into the crater created by the cave-in, while a nearby electricity pole tilted dangerously into the pit. No injuries were reported in the incident, but both vehicles sustained extensive damage.
Neighbouring Noida also experienced severe waterlogging in several areas, including Sectors 16, 33, and 12. Knee-deep water accumulated at multiple locations, making movement difficult for pedestrians and two-wheeler riders. Several motorcycles and scooters stalled after water entered their exhaust systems, forcing riders to push their vehicles through flooded roads. Some commuters crossed inundated stretches by walking along roadside dividers to avoid deep water.
The series of rain-related incidents across Ghaziabad and Noida highlights the severe impact of heavy rainfall on public safety, transportation, and urban infrastructure, with flooding continuing to disrupt daily life across the National Capital Region.
